A great checking account should be easy to use, transparent about fees, and built around how you actually live. Metro offers two options to fit different needs: Simply Checking for no-fee1  everyday banking, and Complete Checking for added perks like dividends, free BillPay, and extra ATM access.

Both accounts come with no NSF fees, ever. And if you ever overdraw your account, our Courtesy Pay program covers transactions of $5 or less, and balances overdrawn by $50 or less, with no fee2.

Checking Account FAQs

What's the difference between Simply and Complete Checking?

Both accounts come with a free debit card, online banking, the Metro mobile app, free eStatements, Courtesy Pay, and access to the Money Pass ATM network. Simply Checking is fee-free with no minimum balance, making it a great fit for everyday banking. Complete Checking adds extra features like monthly dividends, free BillPay, your first box of checks free, and three free out-of-network ATM transactions per month.

How do I avoid the Complete Checking monthly fee?

The $10 monthly service charge on Complete Checking is waived if you meet any one of the following:

  • $4,000 or more in monthly direct deposits
  • $10,000 or more in your individual account balance
  • $25,000 or more in combined Metro loan balances (including mortgage products)

If none of these apply, Simply Checking may be a better fit. There's no fee, no minimum balance requirement, and you still get most of the same features.

What is Courtesy Pay and how does it work?

Courtesy Pay is Metro's overdraft program. If you accidentally overdraw your account, Courtesy Pay can cover certain transactions, so they aren't returned. Here are the basics:

  • Courtesy Pay covers checks, ACH transactions, and BillPay payments. It does not cover ATM withdrawals, in-person transactions, or online banking transfers.
  • There's no fee on transactions of $5 or less, or when your account is overdrawn by $50 or less.
  • For larger overdrafts, the fee is $33 per item.
  • You have 35 days to bring your balance back to zero.

Can I switch from Simply to Complete Checking (or vice versa)?

Yes. You can switch between Simply and Complete Checking at any time. Stop by any Metro branch, give us a call at 402-551-3052, or send us a message through online banking and we'll take care of the change for you.

How do I order checks?

If you have a Complete Checking account, your first box of checks is free. To order your first or any additional boxes, log in to online banking and select the check reorder option in the Services menu, or contact us at 402-551-3052 and we'll help you place the order.

What ATMs can I use without fees?

Both Simply and Complete Checking accounts include free access to the Money Pass Network, which gives you fee-free withdrawals at thousands of ATMs nationwide. Complete Checking adds three free out-of-network ATM transactions per month, with no Metro fees on those withdrawals (other financial institutions may still charge a surcharge).

(2)Courtesy Pay is our overdraft program. It can be used to pay checks, ACHs, and BillPay transactions. Courtesy Pay will not cover ATM withdrawals, in-person transactions, or online banking transfers. Members have 35 days to pay any negative balance caused by Courtesy Pay. Metro will charge you a fee of $33 each time we pay an overdraft if the transaction we pay exceeds $5 and the account is overdrawn by more than $50 (available balance is negative by more than $50) after payment of the overdraft. Due to system limitations, in some cases where the transaction is $5 or less or the account is overdrawn by less than $50, the fee may be assessed and then reversed. (3)Complete Checking has a $10 service charge fee. It can be waived with any of the following: $4,000 direct deposit monthly, $10,000 in the individual account balance, $25,000 in loan balances (includes mortgage products).
